I was happily reading a different book on my kindle when I came across this book (Hole: A ghost story) on Amazon. I decided to "Look inside the Book" and I read the first chapter. Straight away I was hooked! I never leave a book unfinished, but the book that I had been reading was forgotten and I downloaded Hole and started reading it there and then.I sat up till 6am reading this book after downloading it. I don't know what it was about the book but I just couldn't stop reading it. There were parts of the story that really hit a nerve with me. I found myself wishing that I could become a ghost and come back to seek revenge with people who have wronged me in the past. The author dealt with the sensitive topics in this book very well, he really did his research. He explained the fears and thoughts that people often carry around deep inside themselves, he explained this so so well.
This book has a great story. I loved the characters. I actually cried at parts of the story, my heart was breaking for Mary. At the start of the book I hated her husband, but as the story went on I really liked him. I even felt sorry for him. I really loved this book, the whole ghost part was genius! I can't recommend this book enough! I am so glad that I read it. This book opened up some old wounds for me, but sometimes that can help a bit.......
I am really looking forward to reading other books by this author. He has an amazing talent at telling a story and keeping the story interesting ALL of the time. I loved this book.
EDIT....... I've just downloaded another book by this author. Its called "House Of Dead Trees." It gets great reviews and it sounds really scary! Looks like I'm going to be up half the night reading again. Rod Redux is my new favourite author. I'm so glad that I found his books! :)

This book kept me on edge, wondering what was going to happen next. Very chilling, yet entertaining!
Once again, author Rod Redux crafts a unique and gripping tale. I have read all his novels, and one thing I like about this author is that every one of his books are different, not just different from each other, but different from other books, too. You never know quite what is going to happen next, and the climax of his plots is always a surprise. This book is no different. On the surface, it is a supernatural thriller about a married couple who are torn apart by a tragic suicide. But there are horrible secrets below the surface of the tragedy which involve issues of emotional and sexual abuse, which are dealt with very realistically by the author. And yet, there is another layer to the story, one that is paranormal in nature. I don't want to give it away, but it is pretty surprising, and sets this book apart from the stereotypical "Lifetime network for women" drama which occurs on the surface of the narrative. As Always, Rod's characters are the highlight of the book. They are flawed, totally believable characters who you really feel for by the end of the book. The writing is very graphic and easy to follow, and there were a couple scenes, especially the one where the main character dreams (?) he is making love to his wife's ghost, where I literally could not tear my eyes away from the page. Readers who are easily shocked or offended should probably think twice before reading this book, however, because there are several such scenes of explicit sexuality and gore, but if you can deal with that, this is an excellent horror novel and well worth the price of admission. The only gripe I have is that Mr. Redux needs to get the next volume of his Oldest Living Vampire series out so we can read it! I don't think I can wait until December to read part 3!!!
Well written book & not what I expected in some ways, which was pleasantly surprising. Very different kind of ghost story as well as a great reminder to us how short life can be & how we live our lives isn't something we should ever take for granted, even though we all do....at least some of the time, when we should remember to love & be our best to our family all the time, or always try to give it your best shot....
Very gripping, disturbing and sad. All at the same time. I love Rod Redux's novels and "Hole" was no exception. Sooo much emotion in this one. I actually cried a few times for poor Mary while I was reading it. As with his other novels, Redux incorporates quite a bit of sex or sexually explicit language so if that offends you don't read it and leave a bad review based on language. I personally loved it!
A great book. Heart felt and filled with raw emotions when the author exposes death and the heartbreak that comes with it. That was gut wrenching. I enjoyed it. Until three quarter of the way. Then, for me, it just...flops. Scenes I've seen before. Verbal exchange painful, dull, even boring. I couldn't wait to get to the ending.
I am not really into ghost or horror stories as most of them are very cliche but Rod has earned a lot of slack with me with what he has done with Mort so I gave this a try.
I would consider this more of a genre cross between psychological suspense and a ghost story that goes along at its own course and won't remind you of any other such tale you have read.
Is it a good Horror book? Is it a good ghost story? Thats up to you but to me its simply a good book.
Its $3...get it on your kindle and enjoy it. Its a fairly quick read.
I know that I am being picky, but I could only give this story a four out of five. This is despite the really excellent story content and clean writing style. I won't be giving away the ending if I say that the paranormal aspect of the story was inadequately integrated into the early parts of the book. It makes the appearance of this part artificial later on. Because the rest of the book was so good, this flaw really stood out. The rest was still very good.
